Description

You think that something has already been made or invented for everything, but not yet. For example, my wife has a VanRaam bicycle because of polyarthrosis. But like many women (apologies for the prejudice :D), she has some difficulty with navigation as soon as she is further away than the supermarket around the corner. So she would like to be able to use the phone as navigation. You might think nothing special, it was for sale. But unfortunately, nowadays, especially the youth, many people only use a back case for the phone. But as soon as you use a so-called booklet case/cover in which you can also store your bank card, nothing will fit anymore, unless you first have to wiggle your phone out of the case and then place it in the holder. With the risk of the phone falling (on the street). Especially if you already have trouble with your hands due to osteoarthritis.

So let's start drawing something yourself. The idea is that the phone with a case can be placed on the bike. But the cards cannot fall out, it must be simple, robust and manageable for someone with osteoarthritis. But the phone must also be properly locked. The phone must also be able to be used normally and possibly be charged while driving.

With this data, some prototypes were made, ultimately resulting in a workable result. The result is quite large and fairly heavy, but it meets the requirements.

The base is a tray where the phone is placed with the case open. This is then covered by a lid with a recess at the top the size of the readable screen that keeps the phone in place. This whole is then slid into a holder that is locked in the side by means of a click lock to prevent it from falling out. There is an opening on the side to continue operating the buttons. The holder has a RAM mount at the back for mounting on the bicycle with other RAM parts. Because the click closure is quite sturdy and cannot be released by someone with osteoarthritis, I installed 2 release levers on the bottom that, by turning them outward, push the phone out of the holder without having to exert a lot of force. The levers are mounted in the holder with 2 2mm axles and a locking 3mm Allen screw.

The only disadvantage is that the holder is only suitable for this size. But it is scalable within small margins. You are mainly concerned with the screw holes at the back to mount the RAM ball. This happens to be one that I had lying around, hence the 2 screw connection. But with adjustment, any other mounting can of course be made. (See step files. Step files have no chamfer, I added that later. STL's do, but are only scalable without adjustments.)

Then there is the choice of material. This led me to CC3D PC blend. This must be printed with a bed at 100 degrees and a nozzle at 260 degrees. Maybe it also works with an open printer, but I don't know. This material prints easily like PetG but is extremely strong. No layer problems, really hard to break. Very strong and tough. So it can withstand vibration and possible falls. Just like the release levers, which have no chance of breaking under the force. Other materials may also be possible, but it is best to test first. I printed it with 3 wall lines, 50% infill and 5 top and bottom layers. The release levers are solid printed. The holes must be drilled after printing because the dimensional accuracy is somewhat less.

There are 2 holes in the bottom to push the phone out and 3 drainage holes in case the holder comes into the rain (without phone), a slot on the side for the buttons and a hole at the bottom for charging.

The lid also has a slot for the buttons and a hole for the charger. And on the side the guide and "hill/hole" for the click closure on both sides. And 2 semi-circular recesses to easily remove the lid.

In the holder on the inside sides are the lugs for the click closure and underneath a drainage hole. The holder is 2/3 high to make it easy to remove the phone with tray.
