40 oz Removable Bedside Water Bottle Holder with Hidden Tapered Dovetail Mount

This is a heavy-duty screw-mounted water bottle holder designed for loft beds, bunk beds, bedside rails, desks, or anywhere you want a large bottle securely within reach.

I originally designed it for my son’s loft bed because I couldn’t find a good holder that would securely hold a 40 oz bottle and permanently mount to the side of the bed without exposed hardware.

The holder uses a separate tapered dovetail mounting base. The base screws directly into the furniture, then the bottle holder slides down over it. Once installed, the mounting screws and base are completely hidden.

The tapered dovetail also makes the connection progressively tighter as the holder slides into position, which greatly reduces movement and wobble while still allowing the holder to be removed when needed.

Printing

My successful test and final print used ASA on a FlashForge Adventurer 5M Pro with a 0.6 mm nozzle.

Settings used:

• 0.30 mm layer height
• 5 wall loops
• 5 top and bottom layers
• 25% gyroid infill
• Outer brim
• No supports

PETG should also be a very good material choice for this application. PLA may work indoors, but I would personally use PETG, ASA, ABS, or another tougher material for a holder carrying a full 40 oz bottle.

For the mounting base, print it with the flat narrow face against the build plate and the wider countersunk face upward.

Print the holder upright as supplied.

Hardware

The mounting base is designed for four flat-head wood screws. Choose screw length based on the thickness of the furniture you are mounting it to. Make sure the screws will not penetrate through the opposite side.

Fit

The dovetail was designed with approximately 0.60 mm clearance per side and was successfully tested in ASA before the full-size model was printed.

Because printers and materials vary, I recommend printing the included dovetail fit-test first if your machine tends to print tight dimensional fits.

The 100 mm bottle-fit test can also be printed before committing to the full holder.

Installation

1. Screw the tapered mounting base securely to the furniture.

2. Position the bottle holder above the base.

3. Slide the holder downward over the tapered dovetail.

4. Push it down until fully seated.

5. To remove the holder, simply slide it upward.

The mounting base stays attached while the holder can be removed for cleaning or replacement.

Note: This is intended as a water bottle/accessory holder only. Use appropriate screws and make sure the furniture is thick and strong enough to safely support the weight of a full bottle.
