WHAT CAN BE CONFIGURED?
Depending on the model, you can change:
• Gear module
• Number of teeth
• Gear width
• Bore diameter
• D-shaped shaft bore
• Hub and shoulder dimensions
• Gear rack dimensions
• Helical geometry
• Sprocket pitch and roller dimensions
HOW DO I FIND THE MODULE OF AN EXISTING GEAR?
First count the teeth. The number of teeth is represented by z.
If you know the pitch diameter d:
m = d ÷ z
If you can only measure the outside diameter da of a standard external spur gear:
m ≈ da ÷ (z + 2)
Example:
A gear has 30 teeth and an outside diameter of 64 mm.
m ≈ 64 ÷ (30 + 2)
m ≈ 2 mm
The likely module is 2.
Gears that mesh together normally need the same module and pressure angle. For two standard external spur gears, the approximate centre distance can be calculated with:
a = m × (z1 + z2) ÷ 2
Please note that the outside-diameter shortcut is intended for standard spur gears. It is not reliable for internal gears, helical gears, heavily worn teeth or profile-shifted gears.
