Description

Convert an old OEM HP internal media card reader (Part #: 5070-2565) into a compact, sleek external USB desktop reader.

The chassis features a contoured top edge fillet designed to sit flush along the rear of a SOEYi v200 desktop PC case, but also added a regular flat model for those with other cases. The electronics just slip into place and its fixed in place with double-sided tape on the bottom as shown.

Mount the thing wherever you want, under the desk, on your case or wherever else.

Cost me nothing to pull out of an old HP case except an owie on my thumb. Took like an hour to make this in OnShape and I was gonna add a lip but got lazy since it works as-is. Have at 'er if you want to edit it.

Noticing now how I could have made it flush with the edges of the case but oh well. Leave a comment if you want that fixed…

Wiring & Installation Notes

Connector Pinout: The 4-pin white OEM connector follows standard USB 2.0 wiring colors:

Red: +5V Power (Pin 1)

White: Data- (USB D-)

Green: Data+ (USB D+)

Black: Ground (GND)

Motherboard Extension: You can extend the harness using female-to-male DuPont (Arduino jumper) wires directly to a standard 9-pin motherboard USB 2.0 header row.

⚠️ Cable Orientation: Double-check your pin alignment. Ensure the Red (+5V) wire aligns with Pin 1 on your motherboard header before powering on.

Routing: Cable can be routed internally through a spare PCIe slot cover or a small notch trimmed in an I/O shield (Mine was above my ps/2 ports and then I rolled the edge over- crimping it down - so it won't cut me down the line when I mess around in the computer.

Recommended Print Settings

Orientation: Print vertically. I printed 45 Degrees so I can have parallel lines at the front of the case.

Material: Polymaker HT-PLA white (to survive the heat this tiny computer pumps out)

Infill: 15% (Monolithic or cubic)

Supports: None required if oriented vertically.
