Dieses Projekt verwandelt eine alte Laptop-Kamera in eine smarte und kostengünstige Haustür-Überwachung für Home Assistant. Um die Linse perfekt an die Gehäuseklappe anzupassen, war bei meinem Setup ein minimaler Einsatz des Dremels nötig. Für das Gehäuse empfiehlt sich definitiv der Druck in schwarzem Filament – so bleibt die Kamera von außen maximal unauffällig.

Der Einsatzzweck:Ich nutze die Kamera, um jederzeit unbemerkt zu sehen, wer vor der Tür steht. So kann ich flexibel entscheiden, ob ich überhaupt öffnen möchte, falls ungebetener Besuch (wie die toxische Ex-Freundin oder Zeugen Jehovas) klingelt.

Erweiterungsmöglichkeiten:Das System lässt sich genial mit weiteren Sensoren ausbauen. Da es sich um eine Tür-Kamera handelt, liegt es nahe, direkt einen Türkontaktsensor zu integrieren. Dieser sendet den Status (offen/geschlossen) zusammen mit den Kameradaten via MQTT an Home Assistant. Von da an sind dem Smart Home keine Grenzen gesetzt.

This DIY project repurposes an old laptop camera into a smart, budget-friendly front door security camera integrated with Home Assistant. For my build, a tiny bit of Dremel work was required to get the lens to fit perfectly with the housing flap. I highly recommend 3D printing the enclosure in black filament to keep the camera as stealthy and unnoticeable as possible from the outside.

The Use Case:I use this setup to check who is at the door without having to walk over, allowing me to remain completely unnoticed. It gives me the peace of mind to decide whether or not I actually want to open the door if unexpected or unwanted guests (like a toxic ex-girlfriend or Jehovas Witnesses) show up.

Expansion Options:The beauty of this build is how easily it expands with additional sensors. Since it is a front door camera, adding a magnetic door contact sensor is a natural next step. It can instantly push the door status along with the camera feed to Home Assistant via MQTT. From there, you can expand it with anything your heart desires.
