Unifi Dream Machine - Rack Mount Fan Bracket for SFP Cooling

Description

When installing a SFP module, especially a SFP ONT, additional cooling is required due to the heat generated by these modules and the lack of SFP port cooling in the Dream Machine rack mount units.

This bracket mounts to the right rack ear of the Unifi Dream Machine rack mount models (UDM Pro, SE, Pro Max, or Beast) and positions a 40mm fan to direct airflow across the front panel at the SFP ports, where the heatsink for the SFP ONT module ends up.

Materials needed:

  • Printed bracket
  • Standard 40mm fan (4010 size recommended)
  • Power source to suit your fan and installation. I used a spare AC-DC wall wart transformer. USB-powered fans can also be useful.
  • 4 M3 screws to attach fan to printed bracket. With a 4010 fan, 16mm thread length should be about right.
  • Possibly longer rack screws due to thickness of rack ear.

M3 holes have a chamfer on the entry and are 3mm ID. M3 screws should cut threads on the way in - don't over-tighten. I used a drill to start them and finished by hand.

The print is not picky. Orient it as in the STL (fan side down). Use whatever filament you have, no supports needed, any reasonable layer height is fine. Mine (pictured) is PETG, 0.3 layer height with a 0.6 nozzle.
