Macintosh Color Classic Takky Chassis

Description
This is a fully redesigned internal chassis for the Macintosh Color Classic, engineered specifically for modders who want to take their machines far beyond their original 68030 limits. Inspired by the legendary Japanese Takky mod, this chassis gives Color Classic owners a clean, stable, and purpose‑built foundation for installing PowerPC logic boards such as those from the Performa/PowerMac 5400 and 6400 series.
What It Does
This replacement chassis solves the biggest mechanical challenges of Takky conversions:
- Correct internal spacing for PPC boards (including deeper logic boards and larger heatsinks)
- Improved structural rigidity compared to the aging, brittle OEM frame
- Optimized cable routing for analog board, harnesses, and front panel connections
- Clearance for expanded cooling and airflow improvements
- Mounting points aligned for Takky‑style board placement without cutting the original case plastics
Why It Exists
Classic Mac modders know the struggle: the stock Color Classic chassis was never meant to house a PPC board, and every Takky build ends up requiring hacksaws, epoxy, and a lot of hope. This model eliminates the guesswork and gives you a clean, reversible, and repeatable way to build a Takky‑powered Color Classic.
Printing Recommendations
Material:
ABS is strongly recommended due to the heat generated by the analog board and the PPC logic board.
PETG is acceptable for some sections, but PLA is not recommended.
Print Method:
Print section by section for best dimensional accuracy and compatibility with mid‑size printers.
Assembly:
Install heat‑set inserts before final chassis assembly for maximum rigidity.
Recommended Hardware
To ensure long‑term durability and avoid interference with RF shielding, the chassis is designed around M3 heat‑set inserts and flat‑head machine screws:
Side Inserts:
M3x3 inserts (5 required)
Front PCB + Front Bottom Attachment + Rear Screw Points:
M3x5 inserts
Screws:
M3 flat‑head machine screws
These sit flush and prevent contact with the internal metal shielding.
