Description

Snap-fit case for the Lonely Binary ESP32-S3-DEVKITC-1 V1.5 ("Gold Edition") — the variant with an ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U module, two side-by-side USB-C ports (UART + USB), and an external antenna on a U.FL-to-SMA bulkhead pigtail. Board is 26 × 64 mm with header pins soldered pointing down.

Designed in OpenSCAD (source included) and test-fitted through three revisions on the actual board.

Features

  • Two parts, snap together — ridges on the lid click into grooves in the tray; pry at the front to open
  • Antenna bay: separate rear compartment for the SMA bulkhead connector. Bolt it through the back wall with its own washer + nut, and the coax coils inside without pressing on the board
  • Front opening clears both USB-C plugs at once, even chunky overmolds
  • Access holes for BOOT and RESET, window over the RGB LED, vent slots over the module
  • Board rests on internal ledges so it never sits on its pin tips; posts in the lid hold it down
  • Ø11 mm hole in the floor — push the board out with a pen, no prying on the ports
  • Ø6.5 mm antenna hole fits a standard SMA/RP-SMA bulkhead (6 mm thread barrel)

Printing

  • PLA, 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 2–3 perimeters, any infill
  • No supports — both parts print flat in the orientation provided (lid prints top-face-down)

Assembly

1. Mount the SMA bulkhead through the back-wall hole from inside the bay, washer + nut outside.

2. Connect the U.FL end, drop the board in USB-end first, coil the coax into the bay.

3. Snap the lid on (the notch in the lid rim goes over the antenna connector).

The OpenSCAD source is fully parametric — clearances, snap tightness, port opening, bay depth, vents, and hole positions are all named variables, so it's easy to adapt to similar boards or a printer that runs tighter/looser.

Inspired by ESP32-S3 DevKitC-1 Case by peaberry (thing 7284377), redesigned from scratch for this board's dimensions.
