Description

This is my first published design, please be kind!

I have an older Cobra radar detector I use in my 2003 ghetto Boxster, but I always hated the look and functionality of the suction cup windshield mount. The designs I found were equally wonky, and commercially available ones are like $150 plus, so I decided to design my own in Fusion3D, utilizing the original metal bracket. The result is fairly pleasing aesthetically and quite functional.

The whole thing can be run in a single print-I used ABS for strength (PETG might work, but PLA would not hold up to the Arizona heat). I used some cap screws and locking nuts I had on hand, you will need to source them yourself-I think M6 of appropriate lengths should be fine for everything but the bolts for the bracket. To avoid marring the mirror stem and to improve grip, I lined the inside of the round clamp with black foam.

Like all things Porsche, it takes a bit of contortion to install. Preassemble everything together loosely, including one of the clamp bolts. Fit it onto the mirror stem, let it dangle close to the mirror, and thread the other side and tighten it up some while it is easy to get to. Then push the clamp towards the windshield till it is flush. Tighten till you have a good grip, and adjust and tighten the rest of the assembly. I ran the wiring under the window trim, down the passenger pillar trim, and to the switched phone wiring in the center console to complete the job. YMMV
