Description

This is my 2.0 version of the Vive Tracker Lite! This mount allows you to use those dusty old Vive wands as trackers for full body tracking, camera tracking, or anything you could use a Vive tracker for! Or you can purchase used wands off the internet for a significantly cheaper alternative to vive trackers!

Used Vive trackers are expensive and can go for $100+ each, however, used Vive controllers can be found for much cheaper (as low as $20 each)! That makes this the absolute cheapest method of getting lighthouse-tracked FBT!

You can either reconfigure the controller's software to semi-permanently behave as a Vive tracker, or you can use the app Natural Locomotion on steam to temporarily use your Vive wands as trackers.

This print uses the same type of threaded mount that typical Vive trackers use (which is the same as most camera mounts), so you can use any old tracker strap you find on amazon (like the dirt cheap ones I got)!

Extra required parts (per tracker):

2x M3 threaded insert (https://a.co/d/0dxcOuBP)

2x M3 Screw (https://a.co/d/0dxcOuBP)

1x 1/4" Insert (https://a.co/d/03vSp9az)

1x Soldering iron/press to insert the threaded inserts

Print settings

Super easy to print!

Filament: PLA or PETG (I used PLA and it is plenty strong!)

Infill: 25%+

Supports: No

Connecting the tracker

In order to connect your VTL2 to your PC, you must have either a SteamVR dongle or a Vive headset. A Vive headset has two "SteamVR dongles" inside it that are normally used for both controllers, so you can use that to connect two trackers to SteamVR (but only if you aren't using the headset's "dongles" for your controllers!). If using another headset, you can just leave the HDMI connection to the Vive headset disconnected, and you will be able to still use the internal "SteamVR dongles". You can also purchase bootleg dongles off Amazon. I have tested this one and it has worked well for me. https://a.co/d/03WnhTVu

If using a non-lighthouse-tracked headset, you will need to use Space Calibrator (https://store.steampowered.com/app/3368750/Space_Calibrator/) to align your playspaces!

Note:

This mount has been stress tested with flopping, shaking, kicking, and various other shenanigans (not like that you perv). The print withstands high speeds and aggressive movements while mounted from the 1/4" mount hole.

More

You can get high quality FBT with Vive trackers, but they are so dang expensive. You can get entire Vive headsets with the controllers and trackers for under $100 if you know where to look, but just ONE Vive tracker is usually well over $100! Tundra trackers aren't cheap either! So... why not use the controllers? They are tracked after all, and much easier to get your hands on. Yes, strapping Vive controllers to your ankle and waist and thighs and arms and chest and toes is a bit bulky, but it works! If you're desperate to gesticulate as your colorful femboy furry avatar in VRChat but don't have hundreds to spend on Vive trackers... then maybe this is the solution for you!
