Description

This is my first go at a 3d printed fuel injector removal tool for the BMW B58 series 1 engine. It might also work on other B58's.

It's the most hideous and embarrassing fusion 360 file you've ever seen, but I'm uploading it here in the hope that others may find it useful, or even better, improve/remix it.

This tool needs to be printed in very strong config. Many walls, etc. It's a pretty poor design, but did the job for me.

Once you've removed the fuel rail and have the injectors still in place (as shown in photo) this jig will pull the injectors (one at a time) directly upward and out of the head. The legs on this jig are a bit weak so you have to be gentle. The jig is designed not to put any pressure on the plastic components, but rather in the areas circled in green in the photo.

To use it, print it, and position it either on the front 3 cylinders, or the rear 3 cylinders.

Gently attach it to the block using the screws that held the fuel rail in place. These don't need to be very tight; they will just hold the jig in place.

Then take two screws/bolts (M4 I think), and put them through the jig holes circled in dark blue in the photo. These screws need to attach to the metal injector collar that is sitting loose around the injector.

Then use a socket to very gently and slowly tighten both of the screws. Don't tighten one at a time. Incrementally tighten one, then the other. mebbe 1/2 turn at a time then swap. This will ensure the injector comes out straight.

Do this for each of the 3 injectors, then move the jig to the other 3 injectors.

I broke this jig a couple of times during my travels, but it cost about 5$ in plastic, and I couldn't afford to buy the genuine tooi.

Please watch this bloke's video. It is a great DIY howto remove injectors, and has lots of good tips. At 21 minutes into the video, he starts using the commercial tool to remove injectors (very different to mine above, but might give you some ideas)

Hope this helps. please remix/improve :)

This jig isn't used for injector insertion. That just needs a spacer block and is much simpler.
