Description

This project is a detailed Fusion 360 (.f3z) functional model of a helicopter’s Main Gearbox (MGB). It is designed specifically for educational purposes and mechanical simulation to demonstrate how power is distributed from a single engine input to both the main rotor and the tail rotor.Mechanical Working PrincipleThe model showcases the simultaneous operation of two different transmission types:Main Rotor Drive: A high-torque 6:1 Planetary Gear System reduces the high RPM from the input shaft to provide the necessary torque for the main rotor.Tail Rotor Drive: A Bevel Gear Set diverts power from the main axis to a secondary output shaft, simulating the high-speed drive required for a tail rotor.Technical Specifications:Planetary Gear Ratio: $6:1$ ReductionSun Gear: 12 TeethPlanet Gears: 24 Teeth (x3)Ring Gear: 60 TeethCAD Format: Distributed Fusion 360 Design (.f3z)Note for Users (Simulation):This upload is intended as a kinematic study rather than a 3D-printable kit. To see the mechanism in action:Open the .f3z file in Autodesk Fusion 360.The model includes pre-configured Revolute Joints and Motion Links.Rotate the input "Sun Gear" or the "Main Shaft" to observe the synchronized movement of the planetary carrier and the tail rotor output. The assembly uses a modular housing (chassis) design to prevent joint conflicts and ensure smooth rotation.About the Project:This model was developed by a 10th-grade engineering student with a focus on defense industry production technologies and autonomous platforms. It serves as a proof-of-concept for complex mechanical transmissions and power management in aerospace engineering.
