RCA VRD120HF VCR – Replacement Drive Hub / Coupler (Gear Shaft)

This is a 3D-printable replacement drive hub/coupler for the RCA VRD120HF VCR. It mounts onto the shaft of the intake drive gear and interfaces with the main worm gear in the mechanism, transferring motion for tape loading and transport functions.

The original part commonly becomes brittle with age and cracks or splits, resulting in slipping, loss of drive, or complete failure of the mechanism. This replacement restores proper engagement between the gear shaft and worm gear.

While designed for the VRD120HF, similar mechanisms may use a comparable part.

Important Fitment Note:

This part is designed as a press-fit / friction-fit onto the gear shaft. It should install snugly and remain secure during operation. Your printer should be properly calibrated for dimensional accuracy. If the fit is too tight, carefully sand or ream the inner bore until it presses on firmly. It should not be loose or spin freely on the shaft.

Print Notes:

Filament: PETG recommended for durability and resistance to cracking. PLA can be used but may wear or fail sooner.

Orientation: Print flat on the build plate for best dimensional accuracy.

Supports: Not required.

Infill: 50–100% recommended for strength.

Perimeters: 3–4 walls for a solid structure.

Post-processing: Lightly adjust the inner bore if needed for proper fitment. Ensure the part installs straight and engages cleanly with the worm gear.
