52mm Spindle Fan Duct _ CNC 3018 Pro

Description

Cooling duct designed for CNC 3018 Pro machines equipped with 52mm DC brushed spindles.

Most spindles in this category (including lower power models) use a fan mounted directly on the motor shaft, rotating at full spindle speed (up to 12000 RPM for the 48V – 500W version). While simple, this configuration can introduce imbalance, vibration, noise and additional bearing load.

This design replaces the shaft-driven fan with an external cooling system and frees the top shaft area for installing an RPM sensor. Additionally, the upper spindle cooling duct bracket includes a dedicated slot to accommodate a temperature sensor in a TO-92 package; for example, a DS18B20 can be easily installed here to monitor spindle temperature.

The fan mounts are connected to the spindle by cable ties and the mounts are fixed to the fan duct with M3 screws.

Main Cooling Fan
  • Tested model: PVA092G12H (92 × 92 × 25 mm, 12V 0.4A)

Any standard 92mm (92x92x25mm) fan is compatible.

Optional Auxiliary Fan
  • Tested model: BS601012H (60 x 60 x 10mm , 12V 0.21A)

Compatible with any standard 60mm fan.

Originally added for a 100V – 500W spindle that generated higher temperatures.

If not required, a printable filler insert can be used to close the opening.

Mounting Hardware

92mm fan
  • M3 x 16mm pan head screws (self-tapping into plastic)
60mm fan
  • M4 screws (self-tapping into plastic)
Duct to spindle
  • M3 x 16mm pan head screws, washers (recommended) and nuts
  • 4mm (3.6) × 250mm zip ties

Note: even if the 60mm fan has 4 pins, it can be used like a 2-pin fan by using only the yellow and black wires.
