Description

Multivac the Robot

An animatronic platform for experiments in animation, performance, and artificial intelligence.

Assembly Notes

General Notes:

  • Most of the parts were designed to be screwed into place using screws of varying sizes, all sizes that could be used to attach parts to servo motors. Glue will be required for some parts.
  • I haven't had time to design a housing for the electronics that control the robot yet. I glued the circuit boards to the head, but feel free to experiment with the pelvis or chest.
  • STLS that must be printed multiple times have the number of prints in their names.
  • To give the spine flexibility, a tube of hot glue was used along with wires for fixing.

Head:

  • The eyes move in sync thanks to a wire fitted to the Eye_actuators.
  • The parts responsible for eye and eyebrow movement must be glued.
  • In the original model, different teeth were used. You will need to position and glue the model's teeth to the mouth servo.

Electronics:

  • I used a NodeMCU for remote control and a PCA9685 to control the servo motors.
  • The robot uses two 5V power supplies, one of which is a 2A power supply specifically for motor movement.
  • 17 servo motors are used, including 15 9g and 2 Mg996. The PCA9685 only supports 16, so it is recommended that the head motors be directly connected to the microcontroller controlling the robot.
